Synopsis:
"The Dead Are Among Us!
In Italy, it was considered the "unofficial
sequel" to Dawn
of the Dead, In England, it was known as Zombie
Flesh-Eaters and banned as obscene. In America, it
was known as Zombie and advertised with the depraved tag line
"We Are Going To Eat You!". Tisa
Farrow (Manhattan), Richard
Johnson (The Haunting)
and Ian McCulloch (Contamination)
star in this worldwide splatter sensation directed by the
maestro of gore Lucio
Fulci (Contraband,
Conquest, The Beyond) that
remains one of the most eye-skewering, skin ripping, gore
gushingly graphic horror hits of all time!
Now Zombie has been remastered from it's
original camera negative. Each flesh-eating frame has been
lovingly restored to skull-rotting perfection. This is Zombie
like you truly never heard or seen it before!"

My oppinion:
This truly is a horror/zombie classic!
Fulci really doesn't hold back on the gore here. The zombies
look surprisingly good and so does all the blood and guts.
The acting was also pretty good compared to other movies like
this. There are some very memorable scenes, like the eyeball
scene, but there's another scene that really stuck with me.
And that's the underwater scene with a zombie and shark fighting
which is just amazing! The atmosphere is also quite nice in
this one. Despite all this, the movie does have its problems.
The story is nothing special at all and there are a few plot
holes and illogical stuff here. What was the story with the
doctor?! All through the movie there was hints about him not
beeing the good doctor he seemed, but that never got any kind
of explanation. I must admit that annoyed me a bit. Also,
the fact that there were maggots eating on the corpses of
400 year old Spanish soldiers is a bit dumb, but now I'm just
beeing picky.
I also have to point out that Blue Underground's DVD is great.
It's got both the Italian and English language tracks and
the picture quality is amazing!
In the end, Fulci's Zombie doesn't reach up to the level of
Romero's zombie trilogy, but it's great if you take it for
what it is. Pure entertainment! A must for gore hounds!
